A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a long and happy life without fear.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
