Edwards and O'Neil represent the early candidates in the frame to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolves.

The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend after the team's ten-game winless beginning to the Premier League campaign.

And both candidates - each of whom have previous links to the team - are among the options to be evaluated by the club leadership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.

However the ex- Luton Town head coach - who played over a century of appearances for the club during his playing career - is said to be a leading contender for the position.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves board as they start the search of appointing a fresh manager.

O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected contender, although he would be a surprising choice considering he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.

The former West Ham United midfielder is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not need to provide any buyout fee.
