Generational goalgetter Erling Haaland earns a chance to play in his premier global event this coming summer, thanks to his efforts with Norway to the World Cup.

And the 25-year-old Manchester City striker did it in outstanding performance, scoring 16 goals in eight World Cup qualifiers - finding the back of the net consistently in each of those matches.

That makes him the highest scorer in 2026 World Cup qualification in all continents.

And his national team's 4-1 win in Italy on Sunday, with Haaland netting two goals, guarantees they'll be participating in next summer's World Cup in North America.

Haaland stated post-game: "I'm happy, but mostly relieved. There's significant pressure and factors, and I experience it. But it's exciting."

This marks merely their fourth World Cup, and their first major tournament since the 2000 European Championship.

What Significance Was Haaland's Contribution?

The striker's scoring statistics for Norway is absolutely remarkable.

He has scored 55 goals in 48 matches for his country.

Furthermore he is merely the sixth athlete ever, and the initial one in over five decades, to net 50 strikes in fewer than 50 caps.

The nation's former top scorer was 33-goal Jorgen Juve, who maintained that achievement for 90 years.

In these qualifiers he scored 16 goals - in eight matches - plus two assists.

That is double the goals tally any other player has registered in European qualifying.

He stands as the highest scorer in these preliminary games in all continents, even in regions where teams play twice as more games.

Beyond a full year has passed since Haaland previously didn't score in a international appearance.

Collective Performance Alongside Haaland

Yet it isn't solely about one player.

Team leader Martin Odegaard, 26, has greater goal contributions than any competitor in European qualifying - seven setups.

The London club's midfielder has played 67 times for Norway since his initial cap at the age of 15.

"Merge Haaland's accomplishments with the reality that in this generation we also have Martin Odegaard," commented a Norwegian journalist.

We're a country of five million people and we have both the best striker and I'd propose the best playmaker, definitely among the top creators, in the Premier League.

Historical Significance of World Cup Spot

For the premier occasion in decades Norway followers will witness the excitement of backing their team at an international tournament.

Norway competed in the World Cups in 1994, 1998 and 1938, and the 2000 Euros.

Haaland's father, Alf Inge, featured in the 1994 competition.

The striker has mentioned before being better than his dad represented a major professional goal for him.

"Norway will not win the World Cup," Haaland Jr told an international magazine earlier this year.

Dodging Historical Exclusion

Haaland's participation in the global tournament with Norway guarantees he dodges his addition to the roster of legendary footballers who never featured in one.

Three best player awardees didn't succeed to participate in the global tournament.

George Weah, who claimed championships with various top teams, played for Liberia - who didn't make it to a World Cup.

Iconic Manchester United winger the Northern Irish star, regarded by numerous as among the best ever, was a Northern Irish representative during the 1960s and 70s when they failed to qualify.
