Spurs Manager Thomas Frank Labels Vicario Booers 'Not Real Supporters'

The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Tottenham and Raise Pressure on the Manager

Tottenham Hotspur fans who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "they can't be real Tottenham supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.

Spurs conceded two scores in the first six minutes to lose 2-1 to their opponents, registering their 10th top-flight at home defeat of the year.

But the main topic of discussion was the visitors' next score when the keeper gave away possession far beyond his area.

The goalkeeper came out to handle a long ball and carried the ball near the sideline.

However, rather than booting it out of play, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

The forward laid the ball off to Welsh midfielder Wilson, who bent a strike into the net from the sideline measured at 36.6 metres.

Moments afterwards when the ball came to Vicario again, a number of Spurs supporters jeered him.

The team were jeered off at the interval, with the side 2-0 behind, and once more at the final whistle.

One of those booing sessions truly irritated the manager.

"I heard a few of our supporters apparently booed the situation and booed after, which, in my opinion is completely unjustifiable," the Dane commented about the fans' response to his goalkeeper.

"Those individuals cannot be true Spurs supporters that do that. Fair enough jeering following the game, no problem, but when we are in play, we are supporting each other, we are with each other moving ahead."

Tete had handed Fulham a early advantage before Harry Wilson's strike – with Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second period performance.

Ex- top-flight keeper Joe Hart stated that the next goal was "totally avoidable".

"I certainly understand the fans' frustration," Hart added. "I know the part the keeper is playing. He is a great squad member, he is a true leader in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your actions.

"He was deeply implicated in what ended up to be the decisive goal."

'It is In the Game, I'm a Big Man'

Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Match

Italy international the keeper is in his third season with Spurs.

He said after the match that he had to take the feedback.

"The second score was a mistake of my own, I take accountability for it," he commented.

"The intent was to kick the ball far and I simply hit the ball in a poor way. That made an even bigger mountain to overcome."

He stated receiving jeers "is part of the game".

"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team can't be influenced by the situation in the stands. The fans have the entitlement to do what they think.

"It is on us to stay increasingly calm, to focus on our own performance. We are missing in composure and calmness to reverse outcomes. Today is a poor defeat and it is tough to take."

'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Line'

Despite the keeper's mistake, it was not an simple goal for Wilson to score.

Actually it was the next most distant Premier League score of the campaign – following Adams' forty-three point three yard goal for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which interestingly too came on Saturday.

Wilson stated he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an open goal to target.

10 seconds elapsed between the keeper exiting of his box and Wilson shooting – which was 5 seconds following the clearance.

"It seemed to me like the keeper was out of the box for ages," he remarked.

"It amazed me not one of the defenders went back to the goal line. When not one of them covered the net, my eyes sparked somewhat.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which allowed me a bit of additional opportunity. After that it was all about trying to make the correct connection and get it towards goal. I felt a good feeling, as soon as it left my boot, that it was on the right line."

'During in a Bad Spell, Everything Appears to Go Against You'

Jeering Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unacceptable - Frank

Although Vicario's mistake dominated headlines, this was an all-round poor performance for Spurs to continue their home ground struggles.

The match was their tenth home loss of 2025 in the league, a shared team statistic matching nineteen ninety-four and 2003.

They still have home fixtures against Frank's former club the Bees and champions Liverpool to play before the close of the year.

Just a single of those wins have come after the manager took over from Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

"If you are behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a huge challenge to overcome," stated the boss.

"When you're in a bad spell, all aspects appears to work against you as well – the first was a redirected shot, the next is a error from the keeper.

"The outcome puts us in a place where we have lost another match. Each fixture has a single story, this game we were defeated in the first six minutes.

"We just need to keep working. The later period was much better and with luck something we can use to learn."

Spurs have been defeated in four straight home London derbies for the initial time in the top division.

And they are averaging 9.5 shots and 3.2 shots on target per match in the Premier League – their lowest averages on record in a one campaign (since at least 2003-04).

Ex- Cottagers midfield player Murphy stated that the manager has to endure the criticism.

"He's got take the criticism," Murphy remarked. "He has accepted a high profile job at a huge football club with enormous expectation. There is pressure and duty that accompanies that.

"The performances at their stadium have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
