The former Liverpool manager admits coming back to lead Liverpool is conceivable.

Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, indicated that a future comeback remains something that could happen. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure featuring a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, now holds positions in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.

Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks

Liverpool won England's top flight in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would embrace the idea that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he told his interviewer: “I said I refuse to lead a different club in England. Therefore should it be the Reds...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”

“Being 58, so I might decide later on, who knows. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”

Conditions for a Comeback

When asked about which situations would need to occur to draw him back to the dugout, he confessed he isn't eager to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing in the rain for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to press conferences four times, three times a week or constant media duties a week.

“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, however, dining out with the team enjoying conversation, that’s nice. We won a lot of games so there was often great spirits around the place. I still have Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears for example.”

Commending Arne Slot

Klopp was full of praise for his successor, crediting him for the tweaks which secured the championship last term. Liverpool have lost four in a row in all competitions after a summer spending spree, though he denied the idea that it might signal a decline.

“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”

Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota

Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Jota, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and the effect on Liverpool. Jota was killed in a vehicle collision together with his sibling recently.

“How do you replace somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the dressing room missing him. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. A devastating blow for all the boys as well. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it to justify results yet it's the reality. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Dealing with that individually is difficult. Unbearable.”
