The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
